Happy Anniversary to Goodridge
Twenty years ago, on May 17, 2004, Massachusetts granted its first wedding licenses to same-sex couples — the result of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court’s groundbreaking decision in Goodridge v. Department of Public Health. We celebrate this milestone with all of our graduates and friends who have fought for marriage equality, particularly Mary Bonauto ’87, senior director of civil rights and legal strategies for GLBTQ Legal Advocates & Defenders (GLAD), who successfully argued Goodridge and then triumphed at the US Supreme Court in the historic case Obergefell v. Hodges, which established the freedom to marry for same-sex couples nationwide.
