Janelle Orsi — a writer, cartoonist and attorney specializing in cooperatives, worker-directed nonprofits and land justice — came to Northeastern Law as the 2025–2026 Givelber Distinguished Public Interest Lecturer. Orsi, co-founder of the Sustainable Economies Law Center, taught Practicing Law for a Loving World, a course exploring the legal tools needed to build systems rooted in love and collaboration — from worker cooperatives and ecovillages to mutual aid collectives — and inviting students to reimagine how law can nurture care rather than control.

Honoring the late Dean and Professor Emeritus Daniel Givelber, the program annually brings distinguished public service practitioners to the school to share the challenges and rewards of public interest practice and careers.
