David Simon Joins CLASSICA Research Project on Medical AI and the Law
Surgical Intelligence
Professor David A. Simon has joined CLASSICA, an EU-funded research project that seeks to improve cancer surgery outcomes by integrating AI into the operating theater. Simon is a core member of the CLASSICA team based at the University of Illinois College of Law at Urbana-Champaign, which is tackling key legal and ethical challenges related to AI-assisted surgery.

First-year students are doing real legal work for real families — and discovering how much the justice system leaves undone.
During the 2025–2026 academic year, the School of Law’s Center for Public Interest Advocacy and Collaboration (CPIAC) and the School of Public Policy and Urban Affairs created the Northeastern University Law and Policy Fellows Program.
In April, Professor Margaret Burnham’s colleagues, students and fellow travelers came together for a symposium to honor that work, celebrate Burnham’s retirement and recommit to carrying the torch forward.
