Northeastern Law Launches Hope Lewis Distinguished Lecture
To honor the late Professor Hope Lewis, a globally renowned legal scholar, human rights advocate and beloved Northeastern Law faculty member from 1992 until her untimely death in 2016, Northeastern Law’s Center for Law, Equity and Race is launching the Hope Lewis Distinguished Lecture. Among her many contributions to the Northeastern Law community, Lewis was a founder of the Program on Human Rights and the Global Economy and its driving force. This annual series celebrating her impact and legacy features a keynote address by a distinguished advocate, jurist or scholar who has made significant contributions to advancing human rights.
Gay McDougall, an attorney, human rights leader, MacArthur Fellowship recipient and distinguished scholar in residence at Fordham Law’s Leitner Center for International Law and Justice, will deliver the inaugural address, “Human Rights and the UN System,” on March 26, 2025. Danielle Ponder ’11, an award-winning R&B singer-songwriter and former student of Lewis, will offer a musical tribute in conjunction with the event.
