Salus Populi Receives $300,000 Grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation

Northeastern Law’s Center for Health Policy and Law (CHPL), in collaboration with the Institute for Health Equity and Social Justice Research at Northeastern University’s Bouvé College of Health Sciences, has been awarded a supplemental $300,000 grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation (WKKF) to continue to support and expand Salus Populi, the nation’s first program to educate judges and lawyers about the social determinants of health and their relationship to law. This one-year funding builds on WKKF’s previous $600,000 grant in 2022. It will expand the program’s reach, including offering courses for lawyers who appear before courts, enabling them to better understand the impact of the social determinants of health on their clients.

“This award from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, in addition to its past generous support of Salus Populi, speaks both to the critical role that the social determinants of health play in the lives of individuals and families who come before a court and to the necessity for judges and lawyers to be educated on their impact,” said Professor Wendy E. Parmet, CHPL faculty director and co-principal investigator of Salus Populi.
