Swanson Wraps Up Sabbatical Globe Trot
Over the past year, Professor Kara Swanson, a leading authority on the intersections of intellectual property with race, gender and sexuality and on the history of science and technology, has reveled in the intellectual joy of fellowships from Kansas City to the land of the Kiwis. Last summer, she served as the Linda Hall Library Fellow, doing archival research and participating in the activities of the legendary library in Kansas City, Missouri. From there, she headed to Princeton, New Jersey, where she was in residence as a member of the Institute for Advanced Study, a community of scholars that was once the intellectual home of Albert Einstein. She took a break from winter to travel to New Zealand, where she served as the Don Trow Visiting Fellow at Te Herenga Waka— Victoria University of Wellington. This spring, she wrapped up her whirlwind by visiting the Hawai‘i State Archives, where she researched the Kingdom of Hawai‘i’s patent system.
